So yeah, snapped the driveshaft on my pedals the other week at The Globe. New one should be here this week, about $250.

Had practice last night, still with only a single kick. Decided to scale the kit down. One rack tom, one floor, both my snares, hats, one crash, ride and one china. Good fun to play around with, makes you get creative.

Bought two new effects cymbals yesterday. 6 1/4" and 7 1/4". Not from a mainstream cymbal company. The 7 1/4" has four vent holes.

pretty much anything other than your standard crash / ride / hats.
ie: splashes, bells, chinas.. and the weirder ones that i cant remember the names of.

As of today have drastically picked up my practice routine/schedule. Had 2 hours of intense metronome practice after work. Felt like jelly lol.

Anyone use those brass/lead/steel sticks of wrist breaking for practice? Wondering how much it would help fail drummers on the path of infinite blasting.

Ditto. Changed my route home from work to go past the practice room so I can go in with my iPod and play along to songs, also put some metronome 'songs' on there so I can play along to them.

I used those "Ahead" steel sticks for a little while. The tip kept unscrewing and destroying my skins so I superglued it on. Then I snapped one of them.
I've seen a few drummers warming up backstage with huuuge wooden sticks with softer tips (so you practice on a snare without annoying the band onstage) but everytime I ask at billys about them they look at me funny.

I know which ones you are talking about dude, http://www.powerwristbuilders.com They are the solid brass or aluminium sticks.

Geeks, those Ahead stick are fuckin rubbish aye, I've broken 3 sets of them, last set I brought only last probably 2 months before it snapped and they tend to break just above the sleeve collar on all 3 sets of mine, not up near the tip or midway.

The Zildjian anti-vibe sticks are probably the best sticks i've found yet. Only shit thing about them is the rubber in the end of them always manages to work itself out half way through a song, which you can notice immediately.

you should try Vic Firth 1A extreme sticks, the extra length really makes speed easier gives you a lot more throw i guess. when i cant get them (hard to find) i get 5a extreme which are the same deal i.e normal 5a width but around 2cm or so longer. way better than zildjian sticks, those cunts break all the time!

If anyone is looking to get a new kit, i just bought a LOW RIDER CUSTOM kit built in brisbane. totally worth the money, it looks like sex and sounds better

Have you other stick twirlers noticed this gay aids cancer infested new line of sticks from both Vic Firth/Zildjian with the 'grip' on one end of the sticks? Such a horrible gimmick. Drummers have been fine with out that shit for tens of years, if anything they make the stick more slippery. Only reason I got any was because my usual size was sold out, only option was to get the same size with the grip. Finally remembered to take a razor blade to practice to cut it off, trying to blast with them after an hour or two of practice was like trying to hold onto a live fish.

you're not thinking of dip sticks are you by zildjian? those have been around since i first started playing drums atleast!

you dont mean the "corps master" sticks? they're marching band sticks. fat and heavy as shit with rubber tips. vic firth have lots of different models.

yeh 1A's are good. a bit heavier for an entire set, but they'll make a man out of you i guess. i have a pair of the vater 1A's that i practise with occasionally. they're good cuz they're front heavy so they have awesome momentum.

just get something that feels comfortable to you. its hard to judge in a store because playing a rubber practise pad is a complete different feeling to playing on heads/cymbals/ hats.

I used to be able to walk a stick up to my shoulder. You'd roll one hand over and play that stick with the other (as he did in the vid) and move your arm and body in a certain way makes it climb your arm. I also wish I could roll like I used too.

Got a few new cymbals today. The office is getting nice and snug now. Not much room for anything else, even if I wanted to expand.

I was thinking of getting a cage rack, so I can fit another row of chinas on top of my other cymbals. Thoughts? *

Sabian for the win. Your post reminds me that I have a cymbal waiting for me at Billys to pick up, woo!

Agreed. The other brands don't come anywhere near the amount of variety and colour that Sabian offers. I've got HH, HHX, AAX and Vault in my setup (and a AA splash that I'm not currently using) and each has it's own unique flavour that I really can't see myself finding from anyone else.

Especially for someone like me, who absolutely hates the standard "metal" style of cymbal - Z Custom, RUDE, etc. I prefer a darker and more complex sound, rather than the gongyness of those lines.

Can't really be bothered. I can't see them being much use in a live setting, and when I've got the full kit set up, rather than the little one I had when I was using the blades, they become really awkward to position.
